Our local university has a "free program" that people can go to. Maybe yours may have that, too. Try calling to find out fi they have a free, or very low-cost program.

All the other answers are good. I just want to add: look for something called a sliding scale. It bases how much you pay on what your income is. So, if you work a part-time and you only make a certain amount, they will figure out how much to charge. And it won't be too much for you to pay.

Psychologist for a diagnosis of what may turn out to be PTSS (post-traumatic stress syndrome), therapy and development of coping skills. If you require anxiolytics, a psychiatrist will be used for prescriptions. If you have no insurance, you pay out of pocket. If you're low income, you may qualify for Medicaid/Medi-Cal but this process takes time.

You can check with your local chamber of commerce, they should have resources of mental health providers in your area that could help you. If you are employed, check with your HR or personnel department to see if they offer an Employee Assistance Program ( EAP ) that may be able to provide some free visits to a therapist or M.D.
